    02. Hootchie Kootchie Man - 4:27
    03. I Want To Know - 2:13

    Eiji Takemura - vocals
    Shinki Chen - guitar
George Yanagi - bass, vocals, harmonica
    Shinichi Nogi - drums
Initially, the team was referred to as the "Midnight Express Blues Band", but to the release of the first single the band changed its name to "Powerhouse". The very same album was published on April 1, 1969. Despite the absence of their own songs (all things - covers for the songs "The Beatles", "The Yardbirds", Hendrix, etc.) this album is important in the history of Japanese rock. It was the fact that this was the first full-length attempt to present the local listeners with local blues rock (along with the debut album of the band "Blues Creation"). The musical career of this group was started by none other than guitarist Shinki Chen and bassist, "Japanese Eric Clapton", George Yanagi.

PRAYER are back! It has been some 12 years since we were presented with the album Wrong Address (ESM117), which really set the pace way back in 2005 and gained the band a cult following. Then they followed up with an excellent album Danger in the Dark (ESM241) in 2012 and gained some more fans along the way. If you are unfamiliar with Prayer well they play Melodic Rock/AOR and hail from Oulu in Northern Finland. They are the brainchild of Tapani Tikkanen who is the main driving force behind the band. Tapani´s musical career began in the early eighties with IC-Rock and continued later with Tanna . Together with those bands he did hundreds of gigs all over Finland but after several albums and more than 20,000 records sold, it was time for a break. However, he kept writing songs, such as three albums for the craziest football club in the world, F.C. Rainbow and a solo single entitled Everyone s a Winner . Tapani wanted to create a band that brought out his rock and roll heart. After the recording of a few demos Tapani contacted his friend and keyboard-wizard Jari Huvila to talk about forming the band PRAYER. Since Wrong Address there has been some line-up changes, which now features distinguished keyboards player Mika Pohjola as well as Tom Pohjola on Bass. Prayer excel in exciting hard melodic rock with a style that joins together the best of Thin Lizzy, Saga, Treat and sometimes a little bit of Royal Hunt. Their music has meaning and these guys are all committed to making this one of the most talked about Scandinavian bands in recent years. Anyone with a penchant for soaring vocals, driving guitars and plenty of keyboards are in for a real treat. Just check out songs like Fires of the Heart and Feel like a prisoner for prime examples of their work. This is a superb album and certainly their best to date. It's as if all your prayers have been answered.

Once the darlings of British DJ John Peel, who first released these two albums on his Dandelion label, Principal Edwards Magic Theatre epitomized the English intellectual take on music. Comprised of students at Exeter University, the 15-strong troupe was a multimedia event, with music, dancing, and a light show -- everything a bunch of young hippies could want, really. However, they were very much of their time, as the music hasn't aged too well. Certainly the word "pretentious" springs to mind with titles like "Enigmatic Insomniac Machine," "Pinky -- A Mystery Cycle," and "Weirdsong of Breaking Through at Last," while the use of ethereal female voices (mostly Vivienne McAuliffe), recorders, and plenty of acoustic guitars offers a medieval feel -- "Third Sonnet to Sundry Notes of Music," which is Shakespeare set to music, runs from plainsong, to an Elizabethan dance, to portentous early English opera, before heading into electric boogie territory -- all in just the first minute of a 13-minute song. It's all completely over the top, full of its own cleverness, and trying to be thoroughly portentous. By the time of The Asmoto Running Band in 1970, they'd cut down the song times a little, and producer Nick Mason from Pink Floyd focused them a bit more. But it's still music with a heavy emphasis on art for art's sake, and ambition that far surpasses technique (especially in the case of guitarist Root Cartwright). It's impossible not to find some degree of warmth for what's essentially an artifact of a time long past, especially if you ever saw them play live. However, sitting through the whole thing for sheer pleasure is impossible. File under curio.

    Psychic TV - Allegory & Self (1986, Remastered 2017)

Label: Sacred Bones Records / Dais Records
    Genre: Psychedelic Rock, Post-Punk
    Quality: FLAC (tracks)
    Total Time: 45:52 min
    Total Size: 298 MB
    Tracklist:
    1. Godstar (03:42)
    2. Just Like Arcadia (04:00)
    3. Southern Comfort (03:45)
    4. We Kiss (03:37)
    5. She Was Surprised (05:06)
    6. Caresse Song (02:13)
    7. Starlit Mire (05:36)
    8. Thee Dweller (06:41)
    9. Being Lost (03:53)
    10. Baby's Gone Away (02:48)
    11. Ballet Disco (04:51)
Beginning in 1982, the conceptual audiovisual troupe labeled Psychic TV set out on a multimedia journey filled with subversion, liberation and rebellion. Materialized between Throbbing Gristle co-founder Genesis P-Orridge and Alternative TV songwriter Alex Fergusson, Psychic TV started pulling in familiar faces with the likes of Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson, Paula P-Orridge, Jhonn Balance, David Tibet, John Gosling and countless others. While the members' previous works took root in the counterculture zeitgeist of late '70s UK punk and conceptual art, it was no longer a question of how to rebel against authority, but rather how to carefully subvert it through collective infiltration. Parallel to Psychic TV, its members formed the anti-cult faction The Temple of Psychick Youth, further propagating the Psychic TV message and vision.
While the ensuing years saw Psychic TV's major label infection and record breaking live album release binge, it wasn't until 1988 that the band started to ready itself for a chart-friendly pop endeavor in the form of "Allegory & Self". This would be the band's most notable and successful endeavor but tragically, it would be the final songwriting collaboration between P-Orridge and Fergusson. "Allegory and Self" was a perfect storm of catchy pop melody along with subversive counter-culture reference and occult leanings, packaged in a perfect bundle of underground hits.
The record's opening track "Godstar", a song gushing obsessive praise upon the fallen Rolling Stone's member Brian Jones, would give the album it's most notable identity. Godstar's melodic hooks and haunting, Phil Spector-era lyrical chant gives into to all the hallmarks of a chart-topping hit. "Just Like Arcadia" and "Being Lost" follows in similar footsteps, charging along with a somewhat whimsical Beach Boys-esque pop quality. The album also contained a sneak-peak into what direction Psychic TV was heading into going forward, apparent in the acid house number "She Was Surprised". Tracks like "Starlit Mire" and "Thee Dweller" reflect more of what the Psychic TV live experience was akin to in the '80s, aggressive and hypnotic. All together, "Allegory and Self" would stand alone as the band's signature apex from the original '80s line-up

Queen Porter Stomp use their dirty swamp magic to shirk those Prohibition blues - swinging skirts and scuffed shoes for hardwood and concrete dancefloors alike. This is jazz where swing is the key you play, Melody is your gypsy mistress, and signature is what you're trying to avoid committing to paper until you have a shot of bootlegged whisky. They pack horns that scream straight into your soul, squeezed tight into a caravan they've taken up and down and through the smoke and mud of the festival circuit (like the Falls Festival), supporting the hardened and never weary (like Charles Bradley).
Swagger comes from a rhythm section borne of cut-throat jazz chops and a banjo that can exorcise demons on the wrong side of midnight. Amongst all this well honed haze comes the clarity and seduction of the ukulele songstress upfront. Shine those shoes and undo that top button - if you're just tapping those toes, then you're in the wrong bar.
    This is Queen Porter's joint.
