"I can still remember the studio-sessions that resulted in my first blues recording 'How Blue Can A Young Man Get' back in 1995. Like my heroes Robert Johnson, Son House and Big Joe Williams I recorded the songs in one session, live with no over-dubs during 3 to 4 hours. I felt so proud when I heard the result and, even if I had a long way to go, the recording opened up a lot of doors and lead to gigs a both blues societies and festivals.
On this compilation I've tried to gather a few of my many songs I've written and recorded over the years. I think that you'll get a good idea about the journey I've been on. You will, of course, hear the influence of the delta blues but also experience my ambition to develop and try to find new ways to write, perform and record the blues. Tenor-saxophonist Dexter Gordon recorded three CD's worth of material during a two-day period at Copenhagen's legendary Montmartre Club; Take the 'A' Train and Both Sides of Midnight have also been released by Black Lion on CD. Gordon and his impressive quartet (pianist Kenny Drew, bassist Neils Henning Orsted Pederson and drummer Albert "Tootie" Heath) play versions of "Like Someone in Love," "Come Rain or Come Shine," "There Will Never Be Another You," "Body and Soul" and "Blues Walk" that clock in between nine and 14 minutes. Ironically, Dexter, who was in peak form during his years in Europe, was somewhat forgotten in the U.S. at the time. Since the original Alice Cooper band was a major catalyst in the creation of punk rock (Cooper's snide lyrics, the band's raw rock, etc.), by the early '80s Cooper decided to re-embrace the genre after such overblown albums as From the Inside distanced him from his roots. The resulting album, 1981's Special Forces, was Cooper's most stripped-down and straightforward since his classic early-'70s work. But without the original Cooper band to back him up and help out with the songwriting, it's an intriguing yet sometimes uneven set. Cooper was heavily into the guns and ammo publication Soldier of Fortune at the time; hence the album title and lyrical subject matter. The opening track, "Who Do You Think We Are," is one of Cooper's punchiest rockers, and one of his most overlooked, while "Seven & Seven Is," "You Look Good in Rags," and "Vicious Rumours" are also rocking highlights. A faithful rereading of the Billion Dollar Babies nugget "Generation Landslide" is included as well, titled "Generation Landslide '81 (Live)," even though it was, in fact, entirely created in the studio (with added audience cheers). While Special Forces didn't return Cooper to his earlier status as a chart-topping superstar, it is certainly one of the strongest and most interesting releases of his post-1975 period.

The members of Dog Chocolate have played in a number of other bands including Yeborobo, Limn and Gasp! Cracking Eggs. Together they abandon notions of elegance, cred and professionalism they embrace the ramshackle, instant and fun, capturing a vivid spontaneity with their music.
To coincide with the Snack Fans announcement, Dog Chocolate has also unleashed the awesome Emotionally Buff. This primal track embodies everything the band set out to achieve, its fun, ramshackle and exciting, as is the video.
Snack Fans is comprised of 14 bite-sized nuggets high in salt and sugar content. The sound is a shabby, fast, over-excited ball of wet fur falling down the stairs, knocking over plant pots along the way and staining the carpet. With an average song time of 2 minutes, Dog Chocolate are on to the next treat before fully digesting the last.
With the entire album lasting little over 25 minutes, the band fly through a multitude of genres. With each track just about hanging together as its thrashed out of their racy guitars, the ideas come at you thick and fast as if the band are in a rush, yet its the perfect aural feast.
