I highly recommend this 1992 recording of the three "Prussian" quartets by Wolfgang Mozart. The quartets were written in 1789-90 and dedicated to the King of Prussia. Because the king was a dedicated amateur cellist, the works contain solos for that instrument and display it. While I don't think the works are quite as inspired as Mozart's earler set of six quartets (the "Haydn" quartets), that is a tall order, and I have come to very much like them. They are sunny, inventive and sophisticated.
The Petersen Quartet, based in Berlin, has little name recognition here but they may be the world's outstanding quartet based on the recordings I have heard. Even in an age when many quartets boast amazing technical skills, the Petersens stand out. They play with incredible dynamic range (very soft, very loud depending on the music), are expressive and produce insightful interpretations.
The sonics are very good, although a tad bright. This is an outstanding recording by an ensemble that has enjoyed little US recognition. If you are a fan of Mozart's chamber music, you will want to hear it.

Recorded in 1988 and never before released, this session from Psyche includes songs that the band never recorded, as well as alternative takes with different lyrics that never appeared on any Psyche release.
A rare moment of uncertainty after Psyche's final performance with Stephen Huss, Eric Klaver joined the band to create a trio on stage and produce the most obscure recordings of Psyche's career. In 1988, Darrin and Eric found themselves in the studio with Kevin Komoda for a Brave New Waves session with only sketches of material they had improvised in between shows in Montreal and Quebec City. Aside from Eric's reworking of "Unveiling The Secret" at the last minute, Psyche had a scheduled recording date with this prestigious program on CBC, and no idea how to go about fulfilling their potential session.
As well, Brent Bambury gives one of his most amazing interviews ever with frontman Darrin Huss after being postcard pals throughout Psyche's initial recording time in Paris, where the Huss brothers created Unveiling The Secret. Darrin finally met his favourite broadcaster who played all his favourite songs, and inspired new discoveries while he stayed up late at night in his Edmonton home just to hear this awesome program.

Formed in 1965 in The Hague (The Netherlands), they made their recording debut with 'You're The Victor', a wild, rhythmic track inspired by the Pretty Things. It was succeeded by the equally compulsive 'The Life I Live', a searing slice of R&B. Q65 travelled to London to promote this release but, having been denied work permits, opted to turn the visit into a promotional tool. They returned to The Netherlands on a rubber lifeboat, taking almost 12 hours to cross the Channel. Upon landing at the Scheveningen Pier, the group was greeted by almost 30.000 cheering fans who were rewarded with an open-air concert. The menacing 'I Despise You' was followed by 'Revolution', their 1966 debut album, which blended original material with R&B standards, notably a 13-minute version of Sonny Boy Williamson's 'Bring It On Home'. In 1967 they released the 'Kjoe Blues EP'. They were into soft drag, and their sound changed. In 1968 Wim was drafted into the army. This marked the end of the first Q65 era. They regrouped in 1970 with a new album called 'Afganistan'. In 1971 'the Q' releases their third and final album 'We Are Gonna Make It'. The sound was different from their early era, more psychedelic.
